Stippled, sprayed and popcorn ceilings were standard in Ontario homes for decades because they hid framing imperfections cheaply. Today they do three things you do not want: they date the room instantly, they trap dust and cobwebs, and they make a space feel lower and darker than it is.

Taking one down is not just scraping. The texture comes off, then the ceiling underneath — often unfinished, patchy, or with tape lines never meant to be seen — has to be re-taped and skim coated to a proper flat finish. That second half is the part that separates a smooth ceiling from a blotchy one, and it is the part we are known for.

Asbestos: we test before we touch. Textured ceiling coatings installed before roughly the mid-1980s can contain asbestos, and there is no way to tell by looking. If your home is that vintage we arrange sampling and lab testing before any removal begins. If a sample comes back positive we stop, refer you to a licensed abatement contractor, and pick the job back up once the space is cleared. We will never dry-scrape an untested vintage ceiling — not in your home, and not with our crew in the room.

How much does popcorn ceiling removal cost?
It starts at $4 per square foot, which includes containment, removal, re-taping, skim coating and cleanup. High ceilings, water-damaged ceilings or homes requiring asbestos abatement are priced separately, and we tell you before the work starts.
Do I need an asbestos test?
If the ceiling was installed before roughly the mid-1980s, yes. We arrange the sampling and lab work. Newer ceilings do not need it.
How long does one room take?
A typical bedroom or living room is usually two to four days, because the skim coats need to dry between passes. We give you a realistic schedule with the quote.
Can I stay in the house?
Yes for a single room, since we seal the work area off from the rest of the home. For whole-home ceiling removal most people prefer to be elsewhere during the scraping days.
Do you paint the ceiling afterwards?
We hand it over smooth and primer-ready. We work alongside painters regularly and can recommend one if you do not have somebody lined up.
