Why patches usually look like patches

Almost anyone can fill a hole. The reason DIY and low-bid repairs stay visible is that a patch has to be feathered out far wider than feels necessary, built up in thin coats rather than one thick one, and sanded to a genuinely flat plane. Skip any of that and you get a halo — a faint raised ring that catches the light forever, especially under modern LED lighting.

We repair to the same standard we finish new work to. Once it is painted, you should not be able to find it.

One more honest note

Very small repairs sometimes are not worth a contractor's minimum call-out for you. If that is your situation we will say so and tell you what to buy, rather than sell you a visit. When several repairs get grouped into one trip, the economics work much better — so it is worth walking the whole house before you call.

Common questions

Do you have a minimum charge?

Yes, like any trade there is a minimum that covers the visit, materials and the multiple trips a proper multi-coat repair needs. Grouping several repairs into one booking gets you much better value, so list everything when you get in touch.

How long does a repair take?

Most repairs need two or three short visits across several days, because each coat of compound has to dry before the next one goes on. The work itself is quick; the drying is what sets the calendar.

Can you match my textured ceiling or wall?

In most cases yes. Matching existing texture is its own skill and we will be straight with you at the estimate about how close a match is realistically achievable.

My ceiling is stained from a leak. Can you just cover it?

Not responsibly. A stain means water got in, so the leak has to be fixed and the area has to be dry first, and compromised board should be replaced rather than painted over. We will tell you what we find.

Do you paint the repair?

We finish it primer-ready. Because paint rarely matches perfectly on an aged wall, painters usually recommend taking the repair to a natural break or repainting the wall — something to plan for.
